IT support technician resume example

An IT support technician is the person employees call when their laptop will not start, Outlook stops syncing or a new colleague needs an account by Monday.

You take requests by phone, chat or ticket, diagnose the problem, fix what you can remotely and go to the user's desk when you cannot. Daily tasks include resetting passwords and MFA, preparing and deploying laptops, installing software through Intune or SCCM, managing accounts in Active Directory, solving printer and VPN issues, and writing knowledge base articles so the same question gets answered faster next time. In France, support is often organised in levels: level 1 handles the first contact and simple requests, level 2 the more technical issues and on-site interventions. Many technicians work for ESNs and outsourcing companies, placed at a client's site or in a shared service desk.

Tips

  • Specify your support level (1, 2, on-site) and the number of users in the environment.
  • List the tools you use daily: ticketing, MDM, Microsoft 365 admin center.
  • Mention languages: bilingual support is sought after in international companies in France.
  • Show that you write procedures and documentation, not only fix tickets.
  • Include certifications such as CompTIA A+, ITIL Foundation or Microsoft MD-102 if you have them.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Generic phrases like « solving IT problems » without examples.
  • Leaving out the user relationship, which is half of the job.
  • Forgetting to mention languages and soft skills for customer-facing roles.
  • Listing every software version you have ever installed.

Working as an IT support technician in France

There is no legal diploma requirement for IT support technicians in France. The common qualifications are the BTS SIO (option SISR), the BUT Informatique or Réseaux et télécommunications, and the titres professionnels « Technicien d'assistance en informatique » (TAI) and TSSR. Certifications such as CompTIA A+, ITIL Foundation and Microsoft certifications are useful but not mandatory. Frequently asked questions

Is ITIL useful for an IT support technician in France?

Yes. Many large companies and ESNs organise their support according to ITIL, with incident, request and problem processes. The ITIL Foundation certification shows you understand this vocabulary, and it is often listed as a plus in job ads for service desk roles.

Can I work in IT support in France with limited French?

Some international companies and outsourcing providers run English-language service desks, sometimes for users in several countries. But most roles involve French-speaking users, so a good level of spoken French is usually required. State your level honestly on your resume.

How do I present work at a client site through an ESN?

Name the ESN as your employer and the client's sector, or name the client if it is not confidential. For example: « IT Support Technician, [ESN], placed at an insurance company ». This tells recruiters the environment size and type of users you supported.
