Trainer resume example

A trainer (formateur or formatrice) in France teaches adults rather than children: jobseekers on a retraining course, employees sent by their company, apprentices in a CFA, or people preparing a titre professionnel.

The work starts well before the session. You analyse what the learners need to be able to do at the end, build a sequence of activities, prepare slides, case studies and practical exercises, then deliver in a room, a workshop or online. Assessment is a large part of the job: placement tests, practical evaluations, attendance sheets and the quality documents that training organisations must keep for Qualiopi certification. Many trainers specialise in a trade (construction, accounting, office software, languages, health and safety) and keep one foot in that trade to stay credible.

Tips

  • Name the subjects you can teach and the audience: jobseekers, apprentices, employees, managers.
  • Show both design and delivery, since many organisations expect you to build your own materials.
  • Mention the certifications you prepare learners for (titres professionnels, CQP, CACES theory, languages).
  • Keep your trade experience visible: it gives you credibility in front of adult learners.
  • If you work freelance, say so and mention your declaration number status.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Listing only the number of hours delivered without saying what learners achieved.
  • Hiding your original trade, which is often what the recruiter needs.
  • Using teacher vocabulary meant for schools rather than adult training.
  • Forgetting remote delivery tools, now expected by most organisations.

Working as a trainer in France

Search for formateur, formatrice, formateur d'adultes, formateur technique or formateur en [subject]. There is no regulated diploma, but the Titre Professionnel Formateur Professionnel d'Adultes (FPA) is widely recognised, and university degrees in education sciences are common. Employers include private training organisations, apprenticeship centres (CFA), the AFPA, GRETA public networks and company training departments. Organisations that receive public or CPF funding must hold the Qualiopi quality certification, so trainers are expected to document their sessions carefully. Freelance trainers who sell training directly must register a declaration of activity with the regional authority (DREETS).

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a qualification to work as a trainer in France?

No certification is legally required. Recognised routes include the Titre Professionnel Formateur Professionnel d'Adultes, university degrees in education sciences, or a degree in the subject you teach. In practice, organisations look first at your expertise in the field and your ability to run a group.

How do I show teaching skills from a non-training job?

List tutoring of apprentices or interns, onboarding of new colleagues, internal workshops or procedure guides you wrote. Describe the audience and what they could do afterwards. These are the same skills a training organisation looks for.

Should freelance missions go on the same resume?

Yes. Group them under one entry such as 'Freelance trainer' with the dates, then list the main clients or organisations, subjects and formats. This avoids a long list of short assignments and shows continuity.
