Driving instructor resume example

A driving instructor in France (moniteur d'auto-école, officially enseignant de la conduite et de la sécurité routière) spends most of the day in the passenger seat of a dual-control car.

Lessons follow one another, often an hour or two each: a 15-year-old starting accompanied driving (AAC), an adult who failed the test once, a learner using an automatic car. You assess each learner, follow the national training booklet, choose routes that match their level and step in with the dual controls when needed. Between lessons, you may teach theory sessions on the highway code, prepare learners for the eco-driving and safety questions of the test, and accompany them to the practical exam with the State examiner. Some instructors also teach motorcycle or heavy vehicle licences.

Tips

  • State your qualification (Titre ECSR or BEPECASER) and that your authorisation to teach is valid.
  • List the licence categories you can teach: B, A, C, with the relevant CCS.
  • Say whether you teach in automatic cars, now common in driving schools.
  • Mention your knowledge of local test routes and centres.
  • Indicate your status: employee or independent working with online driving schools.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Forgetting the authorisation to teach, which every employer checks.
  • Mentioning pass rates you cannot prove.
  • Leaving out experience with automatic cars or accompanied driving.

Working as a driving instructor in France

Search for moniteur auto-école, monitrice auto-école, enseignant de la conduite, ECSR, moniteur moto or formateur poids lourds. The profession is regulated. You need the Titre professionnel Enseignant de la conduite et de la sécurité routière (ECSR), or the former BEPECASER, plus an authorisation to teach issued by the prefecture for a limited period and then renewed. Teaching motorcycle or heavy vehicle licences requires an additional certificate (CCS) for that category. Entry to training requires a car licence held beyond the probationary period and a medical check. EU qualifications can be recognised; others usually require French training. Lessons are given in French, so a good level is needed.

Frequently asked questions

Should I mention the expiry date of my authorisation?

Yes. The authorisation to teach is issued by the prefecture for a limited period and must be renewed. Writing the expiry date shows the employer you are in order and saves a question at the interview.

Can I work independently?

Yes. Some instructors work as independents for online driving schools, using their own dual-control car. If you have done this, show it as experience and state the platform type without brand promotion.

My instructor licence is from another country. Is it valid?

Not directly. You need to have your qualification recognised in France and obtain the French authorisation to teach. Procedures exist for EU and EEA qualifications; for others, you usually need to train for the Titre ECSR.
