Customer service advisor resume example

A customer service advisor, conseiller or conseillère clientèle in French, handles customers' requests remotely, by phone, email, chat or social media, for an energy supplier, a telecom operator, an insurer, an e-commerce site or an outsourced contact centre working for several brands.

Each contact follows the same logic: identify the customer, understand the request, find the answer in the information system, resolve it or pass it on, then record the interaction. Requests range from a billing question to a contract change, a delivery problem or a formal complaint. Some roles include sales: proposing a better-suited plan or an extra option when the customer's situation calls for it. Advisors work on a schedule set by the planning team, with quality monitoring through listened calls and customer surveys. Bilingual roles in English and French are common.

Career change

After years in retail, I want to move into remote customer service. I bring experience in calming upset customers, explaining offers clearly and selling options when they genuinely help the client.

Tips

  • Name the sectors you know: telecom, energy, insurance, banking or e-commerce each have their own vocabulary.
  • List the channels you handled (phone, chat, email, social media).
  • Mention the indicators you worked with, such as quality scores or first-contact resolution, without inventing values.
  • Give your language levels in CEFR terms; bilingual positions test them by phone.
  • Mention any remote work experience and your home setup if the role is remote.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Writing 'good people skills' without a single example of a difficult contact.
  • Omitting the sales side if the job ad mentions it.
  • Overstating your language level, which will be tested in the first call.
  • Leaving out tools: contact centres hire people who adapt fast to software.

Working as a customer service advisor in France

French ads use conseiller clientèle, conseillère clientèle, conseiller relation client, téléconseiller or chargé de clientèle; add bilingue anglais to find English-speaking roles. The job is not regulated. The titre professionnel Conseiller relation client à distance and the BTS NDRC are the common qualifications, but companies train most new hires themselves. Banking roles with the same title are different: they are branch-based and may require specific regulatory certifications, so read the ad carefully. Contact centres often work on shifts including Saturdays. International contact centres in France hire native English speakers, and non-EU candidates need a residence permit allowing work.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a diploma for customer service in France?

No diploma is required. The BTS NDRC and the titre professionnel Conseiller relation client à distance are the usual qualifications, and many companies train new advisors in-house before they take their first calls. Recruiters look closely at oral expression and computer skills.

Are there customer service jobs in English in France?

Yes. International companies and outsourced contact centres hire advisors to handle customers in English and other languages, sometimes for several European markets. Some French is usually expected for internal communication, but the customer-facing language can be English.

How do I prepare for the recruitment process?

Expect a phone interview, a role play on a typical call and sometimes typing or language tests. Practice explaining a bill or a contract change simply, and prepare an example of an upset customer you calmed down and how the contact ended.
