Real estate agent resume example

A real estate agent in France spends much of the week finding properties to sell before finding buyers. The work starts with prospecting: door-to-door in a neighbourhood, calls to owners, local partnerships with notaries and syndics.

When a seller is interested, the agent visits, estimates the price from recent sales, and negotiates a mandate, ideally an exclusive one. Then comes the listing: photos, description, mandatory energy rating (DPE), and publication on property portals. Viewings follow, often in the evening and on Saturdays, along with checking buyers' financing, negotiating the price, and preparing the file for the compromis de vente signed before the notary. Rental agents run a similar cycle with tenant files and leases. Earnings often depend on commissions.

Working as a real estate agent in France

Real estate transactions in France are regulated by the Hoguet law. Running an agency requires the professional card 'Transaction sur immeubles et fonds de commerce', issued by the Chamber of Commerce (CCI) and renewed every three years, with conditions on diplomas or experience, financial guarantee and a clean criminal record. Negotiators, whether employees or independent agents commerciaux, work under an attestation issued by the cardholder and must follow regular continuing training. Search for négociateur immobilier, conseiller immobilier, agent commercial en immobilier or conseiller en location. Common diplomas include the BTS Professions immobilières and real estate bachelor's degrees. Good French is essential for contracts, notaries and banks.

Frequently asked questions

Can I list commissions or sales figures on my resume?

You can mention volumes such as the number of sales or mandates if they are accurate, and recruiters will ask about them. Avoid revealing confidential client information. If you are unsure of exact numbers, describe the results in words, such as consistently above team target, and be ready to explain them in the interview.

Is foreign real estate experience useful in France?

Yes, for sales and negotiation skills, and especially if you can serve buyers from your country. But the legal process differs: in France the notary plays a central role and mandates follow strict rules. Show that you know these steps or are training on them.

Should I write 'agent immobilier' or 'négociateur' on my resume?

In France, 'agent immobilier' often refers to the person who holds the professional card and runs the agency, while employees and independents working for them are called 'négociateur' or 'conseiller immobilier'. Use the title that matches your actual status to avoid confusion.
