Administrative assistant resume example

An administrative assistant in France handles the processes that keep a department or a small company compliant and organised.

The work is less about the phone than in a pure secretary role and more about data and procedures: entering purchase orders and supplier invoices into the ERP, preparing customer files, updating spreadsheets, chasing missing documents, preparing mailings and keeping records ready for an audit. In an SME, you may also help with HR paperwork such as onboarding files and leave records. In a larger company, you might support a single department (purchasing, sales administration, logistics) or a project team. French companies rely on many forms and supporting documents, so the job rewards people who check details and keep a clear trail of who sent what and when.

  • Leaving out the size of the team or company you supported.

Working as an administrative assistant in France

Search for assistant administratif, assistante administrative, agent administratif, employé administratif or assistant de gestion. No diploma is legally required, but employers commonly expect a Bac pro AGORA, a BTS GPME or BTS SAM, or a Titre Professionnel such as Employé Administratif et d'Accueil or Secrétaire Assistant. Apprenticeship and temp agencies are frequent entry points. In the public sector, equivalent roles are adjoint administratif posts, filled through civil service exams that are generally open to EU nationals, or through contract positions. Expect to work in French with French documents such as Kbis extracts, URSSAF certificates and invoices that must carry specific legal mentions.

Frequently asked questions

Which French diplomas lead to administrative assistant jobs?

The most common are the Bac pro AGORA, the BTS GPME (Gestion de la PME) and the BTS SAM, along with the Titres Professionnels Employé Administratif et d'Accueil and Secrétaire Assistant. Many people also enter the field through apprenticeship while preparing one of these diplomas.

How do I present temp assignments?

Group them under one heading such as 'Administrative assistant, temporary assignments' with the dates and the agency, then list the main companies and tasks. Temp work (intérim) is a common route into permanent administrative jobs in France.

Is English required?

Not always. It matters in international groups, export companies and sales administration roles. If you are an English speaker, say so clearly, and state your French level too, since most internal procedures and documents will be in French.
