Financial auditor resume example

An auditeur financier in France usually works in an audit firm on statutory audits (commissariat aux comptes), the legal certification of company accounts, or in a company's internal audit team.

As an external auditor you work in small teams on client sites: you test internal controls in the autumn interim phase, then from January to April review the annual accounts, sample transactions, send confirmation letters to banks and customers, and document each conclusion in the audit file. Juniors handle cycles such as purchases or cash; seniors run the fieldwork and the client relationship; managers and partners sign off. Alongside statutory audits you may work on acquisition due diligence, IFRS conversions or, more recently, sustainability reporting audits. Internal auditors instead review processes and risks across the group's own sites.

Tips

  • Give your grade and firm type: assistant, senior, manager; Big Four, mid-tier or independent firm.
  • Describe your client portfolio by sector and size, and the standards you audited under.
  • Show the audit areas you are comfortable with: revenue, inventory, provisions, consolidation.
  • Mention any non-audit missions: due diligence, IFRS conversion, sustainability reporting.
  • List your diploma (master CCA, business school, DSCG) and say if you are pursuing the DEC or the CAFCAC.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Listing every client you worked on without your role or areas.
  • Mixing internal and external audit vocabulary without clarifying your job.
  • Leaving out team supervision when you were senior.
  • Writing 'commissaire aux comptes' when you are not registered.

Working as a financial auditor in France

Working as an auditor in a firm is open to graduates of business schools, master CCA or DSCG programmes; no licence is needed for assistant, senior or manager roles. Signing statutory audits, however, is reserved for commissaires aux comptes, who must hold the DEC or the CAFCAC, complete a traineeship and be registered with the French audit regulator (Haute autorité de l'audit). Internal audit is not regulated; the CIA certification is common. Search for 'auditeur financier', 'auditeur externe', 'assistant audit', 'auditeur senior', 'auditeur interne' or 'commissaire aux comptes'.

Frequently asked questions

Should I name the clients I audited?

Usually not, because of confidentiality. Describe them instead: 'listed industrial group', 'family-owned retailer with [x] stores'. Some auditors mention well-known clients in interview if the firm allows it, but the CV is often circulated widely.

How do I move from external to internal audit?

Emphasise process and risk work: internal control testing, recommendations, follow-up with clients. Internal audit teams value your method and rigour, but want to see you can understand operations, not only figures. A certification such as the CIA can help.

Is it worth mentioning sustainability reporting?

Yes, if you worked on it. Assurance of sustainability information is a new field in Europe, and firms are building teams. Describe your involvement precisely: data testing, materiality, controls. It can set you apart from other candidates.
