Financial analyst resume example

"Analyste financier" covers several jobs in France, and job ads rarely make the difference obvious. On the markets side, in an asset management company or a broker in Paris, you follow a sector, read annual reports, meet company management, build valuation models and publish buy or sell recommendations.

In a bank, the credit analyst studies the accounts of corporate borrowers and writes the credit memo that goes to the committee. In industry, the title often means FP&A: monthly variance analysis, forecasts and business cases for the finance director. In private equity or M&A boutiques, analysts spend long evenings on LBO models and information memoranda. What links them is Excel modelling, a sharp reading of financial statements and the ability to defend a conclusion in front of people who will challenge it.

Former engineer in the automotive industry moving into financial analysis after a specialised master's in finance. I know how a plant's costs and capital expenditure really work, which helps me read industrial companies' accounts and question management guidance.

Tips

  • State which type of analysis you did: equity research, credit, FP&A, M&A. French recruiters screen on this first.
  • Name the sectors you covered and the size of the companies, listed or not.
  • Mention the AMF certification if you have it, and your CFA level if you are a candidate.
  • Show the decisions your work fed into: a recommendation, a committee vote, a budget choice.
  • Keep a short section with your tools, since databases like Bloomberg or Diane are filtered on.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Writing "financial modelling" without saying what the model was used for.
  • Mixing internships and full-time roles without dates, which makes your level unclear.
  • Listing every Excel function you know instead of showing analysis.
  • Using a grade from a foreign school without context for a French reader.

Working as a financial analyst in France

The job is not regulated, but most analysts in France hold a master's level degree from a business school, an engineering school or a university master in finance. The AMF professional certification is required for certain functions in investment firms and is often requested at hiring. The CFA is widely recognised in Paris, and the SFAF runs its own training. Markets roles are concentrated in Paris and La Défense, while credit and FP&A jobs exist across regions. Search for "analyste financier", "analyste crédit", "analyste FP&A", "analyste actions" or "analyste M&A", and the English titles used by international firms.

Frequently asked questions

Is the AMF certification required for financial analysts?

The AMF professional certification is required for certain roles in investment firms and asset managers, and many employers ask new hires to pass it in their first months. For FP&A or credit analysis in a bank, it is less central. If you already hold it, put it near the top of your résumé.

Does the CFA help in France?

Yes, especially in asset management and equity research in Paris, where it is well known. The French SFAF also offers the CIIA, which is recognised in some firms. Mention the level you have passed and the date of your next exam if you are still a candidate.

How long should my résumé be for an analyst role?

One page for an entry-level or junior profile, two at most after several years. Recruiters in Paris finance expect a dense, well-aligned page with dates, school, internships and tools, often in English. A clear format matters more than design.
