Accounting manager resume example

A responsable comptable, also called chef comptable, runs the accounting team of a company and answers for the reliability of its figures.

Each month you organise the closing: setting the calendar, reviewing accruals and provisions, checking reconciliations and signing off the trial balance before it goes to the finance director. At year end you produce the annual accounts and tax return (liasse fiscale), prepare the corporate tax calculation and work through the statutory auditor's questions. You manage a team of accountants and clerks, distribute work, train newcomers and step in on difficult entries. In a group subsidiary you also deliver reporting packages under group rules, sometimes in IFRS. Recently, much of the job has involved projects: new ERP modules, process automation and preparing for the French e-invoicing reform.

Tips

  • Show the scope: company size, number of entities, team size, accounting standards (French GAAP, IFRS).
  • Highlight closing performance and audit quality, which are what finance directors look at.
  • Describe one project with your role in it: ERP change, process automation, e-invoicing.
  • Mention management responsibilities explicitly, including hiring and training.
  • List your diploma (DCG, DSCG, master CCA) and any professional training in tax or IFRS.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Writing a list of accounting tasks that looks like an accountant's CV, without management.
  • Leaving out the type of auditors or group you reported to.
  • Not mentioning which standards you worked with.
  • Forgetting the systems, which weigh heavily in hiring decisions.

Working as an accounting manager in France

The job is not regulated, but employers expect solid knowledge of French GAAP (Plan comptable général), French tax returns and work with statutory auditors. The usual path goes through the DCG and DSCG or a master CCA, with several years as comptable or auditor. International experience is valued in group subsidiaries, especially with IFRS reporting, but you still need to master the liasse fiscale and French VAT. The e-invoicing reform from 2026 is a current priority. Search for 'responsable comptable', 'chef comptable', 'responsable comptabilité générale' or 'responsable comptable et fiscal'.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between responsable comptable and DAF?

The responsable comptable is in charge of the accounts: closings, tax, compliance and the accounting team. The DAF (finance director) oversees finance as a whole: cash, financing, controlling, strategy. In smaller companies, the responsable comptable often reports directly to the CEO and covers part of the DAF's scope.

Should I mention IFRS if I only did group reporting?

Yes, describing exactly what you did: completing reporting packages, restating local accounts, or preparing consolidated statements. Recruiters will ask about it, so precision avoids a disappointing interview for both sides.

Can an auditor become a responsable comptable?

Yes, it is a common path. Auditors know closing processes and standards well. On your CV, stress the clients you audited, the areas you covered and any time spent helping clients with their closing. Show that you want to own processes, not just review them.
