Sheet metal worker cover letter example

Workshop managers want to know what you can build alone, from drawing to finished part, and with which materials and processes. Your letter should show one concrete example of a part you made, the welding qualifications you hold and the sectors whose quality rules you already know.

Subject: Application: Chaudronnier, [Company], [City]

Dear [Recruiter's Name],

I am applying for the chaudronnier position at [Company]. For [x] years, I have worked in a workshop in [City] that builds stainless steel equipment for the food industry. Our customers are dairies, breweries and ready-meal plants, so hygiene design matters: smooth welds, no retention zones and polished finishes.

I work from drawings and 3D models, calculate flat patterns, program cuts on the laser and bend parts on the press brake. I assemble tanks and hoppers by TIG welding and check dimensions at each stage. On a recent hopper, the customer's drawing did not allow for the thickness of the sheet in the bends; I spotted the error during tracing and we corrected it with the design office before cutting. I also install equipment on customer sites and carry out repairs during production stops, sometimes at short notice.

Your company works in energy and pressure equipment, where quality requirements are even higher. I would like to develop my skills in that field and I am ready to work in shifts or on site. My TIG qualifications on stainless steel under ISO 9606 are valid, and I am used to keeping weld records for customer audits.

I am available for an interview and a workshop test.

Yours sincerely,[First Name Last Name]

Frequently asked questions

What is a chaudronnier tuyauteur?

A chaudronnier who also prepares and assembles industrial piping: cutting and bevelling tubes, fitting flanges and elbows, then installing lines in plants. If you have done piping work, say so in your letter, because these offers are frequent in energy, chemicals and food processing.

How do I describe the thicknesses I work with?

Give a range for each material, for example thin stainless sheet for casings and thicker steel plate for hoppers. Workshop managers use it to judge whether you know their machines: thin sheet calls for different bending and welding habits than heavy plate.

Should I mention CAD skills?

Yes, if you use them. Being able to read 3D models, check a flat pattern on screen or prepare cutting programs is valued, as it reduces the workload of the design office and errors in the workshop.
