Event manager cover letter example

Event agencies receive many applications from candidates who « love organising ». Your letter should instead describe an event you managed, with the constraint you had to handle: a short deadline, a tight budget, a venue that changed at the last minute.

Show that you know the agency's work or the company's events, and that you can handle the logistics as well as the creative side.

Subject: Application for the Event Manager position

Dear [Hiring Manager's name],

I have followed [Agency]'s work on corporate conventions and incentive trips, in particular the seminar you organised for [Client]. I am applying for your Event Manager position because I would like to join a team that combines creative concepts with precise production.

For the past [x] years, I have worked at [Company], an agency specialising in corporate events. Last year, I managed a two-day sales convention for a pharmaceutical client. Two weeks before the event, the venue informed us that the main room would be unavailable due to works. I found an alternative venue nearby, renegotiated the catering and transport, and adapted the run sheet and the stage design with our technical provider. The client kept the original date and budget, and the participants were informed through the registration platform without confusion.

On site, I coordinate technicians, caterers and hostesses with a detailed run sheet and a daily briefing. After each event, I close the budget with suppliers and prepare a debrief for the client with suggestions for the next edition.

I would be happy to meet you to discuss your upcoming events. I am available for travel, evenings and weekends.

Kind regards,[First name Last name][Phone] | [Email] | [Portfolio link]

Frequently asked questions

Should I apply to agencies or in-house roles?

Both exist. Agencies offer variety and a fast pace with several clients, while in-house roles in companies or venues offer more continuity on fewer events. Adapt your letter: agencies look for adaptability and client relations, companies look for knowledge of their brand and internal audiences.

How do I apply as a beginner?

Present the events you organised during your studies, internships or volunteering: a student gala, a sports tournament, a festival. Describe your role, the suppliers you dealt with and what you learned. Many first jobs are assistant event manager roles, so target those too.

Should I mention languages?

Yes. Many events involve international guests, foreign suppliers or trips abroad. English is often required, and other languages are a plus for incentive and congress events. Indicate your level honestly, as you may be asked to speak in the interview.
