Event manager resume example

An event manager plans and delivers events from the client's brief to the day after: corporate conventions, product launches, trade show stands, seminars, galas, sports or cultural events.

The weeks before are spent on the creative concept, the budget, venue scouting, quotes from caterers, AV technicians, decorators and transport companies, and endless spreadsheets of guests, rooms and timings. You check the safety and administrative requirements with the venue, then build the minute-by-minute run sheet. On the day, you arrive before everyone, brief the teams, solve the problems no one planned for, and leave last after the dismantling. Afterwards come the supplier invoices, the client debrief and the final budget. In France, most event managers work in event agencies, in corporate communication departments, at venues and convention centres, or for trade show organisers.

Working as an event manager in France

Event management has no protected title in France. Employers usually expect a Bac+3 to Bac+5 in communication, business, tourism or event management, and many start as assistant event manager (« assistant chef de projet événementiel »). Events are subject to safety rules for venues open to the public (« établissements recevant du public »), sometimes with a review by the local safety commission, and public events may require declarations to the town hall or prefecture. Music played in public involves SACEM fees, and organisers who stage live shows regularly must declare themselves as « entrepreneur de spectacles vivants » (still often called the « licence »). Search with « chef de projet événementiel », « chargé de projet événementiel » and « event manager ».

Frequently asked questions

Should I list every event I worked on?

No. Choose the most representative events for the job you target, with a line on your role, the type of event and the audience. Group smaller events under one heading, for example « [x] seminars for corporate clients ».

How do I show budget experience without giving figures?

Describe your responsibility: building the budget, comparing quotes, tracking costs and closing the final account. You can use placeholders like [x] for amounts you can discuss in the interview, but avoid confidential client figures on the resume.

Is a portfolio useful for an event manager?

Yes. Photos of setups, stands or stages you produced, with a short description, give recruiters a concrete idea of your work. Check that you have the right to show them, especially for confidential corporate events.
