Electromechanical technician cover letter example

The letter should prove that you are comfortable on both sides of a breakdown. Tell the recruiter about a fault that looked electrical but was mechanical, or the other way round, and how you found it.

Then confirm habilitation, shifts and on-call availability.

Subject: Électromécanicien de maintenance: application, [Company] [City]

Dear [Mr/Ms Last Name],

Your plant in [City] is looking for an electromechanical technician for its injection moulding workshop. I have spent the past [x] years maintaining similar presses and their robots at [Company], and I would like to continue on a site where breakdowns are handled by a close-knit team.

My job combines both trades. Recently, a conveyor drive kept tripping on overcurrent and the first reflex was to replace it. Before doing so, I measured the motor current and checked the mechanics: a gear motor bearing was starting to seize. We replaced the bearing, reset the drive parameters and the trips stopped, without buying a new drive. I also carry out thermography rounds on electrical cabinets and the mechanical checks of the preventive plan.

I hold BR, B2V and BC habilitations, renewed last year, and I work in 2x8 with on-call duty. I am used to logging every intervention in the CMMS so that the next shift knows what was done.

I am available for an interview and, if you wish, a practical test on one of your machines.

Kind regards,[First Name Last Name][Phone] | [Email]

What to highlight

  • A breakdown solved by combining electrical and mechanical checks
  • Equipment and brands you know (motors, drives, sensors)
  • Electrical habilitation levels
  • Shift, on-call or travel availability
  • Interest in the employer's specific machines

Mistakes to avoid

  • Presenting only electrics or only mechanics when the job needs both.
  • Leaving out habilitation levels.
  • Writing a generic letter that never mentions the employer's machines.
  • Forgetting to say whether you accept travel when the ad is from a machine builder.

Frequently asked questions

Should I apply to equipment manufacturers too?

Yes, if you accept travel. Machine builders hire electromechanics to install, commission and repair their equipment at customer sites. Say in your letter how much travel you accept and whether you hold a driving licence, which is usually required.

Is a letter useful for temp agency applications?

Agencies rarely need one, but a few lines in the email describing your equipment, habilitations and availability help the consultant place you faster on missions that match your profile and your shift preferences.

How do I mention that I want to progress towards PLCs?

State what you already do, such as reading inputs and outputs online or replacing a module, and add that you want to go further. Mention any course you have started. Employers often train motivated electromechanics in automation.
