Trainer cover letter example

Training organisations hire on two questions: can you teach this subject, and can you hold a room of adults who did not always choose to be there?

Your letter should name the subjects, the audiences you know and one example of how you adapted a session. Mention the certification you prepare learners for when the job ad refers to one.

Subject: Application for Trainer, [Subject], [Organisation]

Dear [Name],

I am writing about the trainer position for the [titre professionnel or programme] at [Organisation]. I spent [x] years as a [trade] before moving into training, and I now teach this subject to adults who are retraining or preparing a certification.

At [Current organisation], I deliver the [module] modules to groups of jobseekers with very different starting points. Some arrive with years of experience in a related trade, others have never used the tools. I start each course with a short practical placement exercise, then split the group for part of each day so the more experienced learners work on real cases while I spend more time with beginners. I also wrote mock assessments based on the official exam guidelines, which help learners know what to expect.

I am used to the paperwork that goes with funded training: attendance sheets, progress reviews, satisfaction surveys and the evidence kept for Qualiopi audits. I can also deliver remotely and have built modules on Moodle.

I would be happy to run a short demonstration session if that is part of your process.

Best regards,[First Name Last Name][Phone] | [Email]

Mistakes to avoid

  • Talking about a love of passing on knowledge without naming a subject.
  • Ignoring the certification or programme mentioned in the ad.
  • Not mentioning experience with adults, which differs from teaching children.
  • Forgetting to say whether you are available for a salaried contract or as a freelancer.

Frequently asked questions

Will I be asked to give a sample session?

Often, yes. Many organisations ask candidates to deliver a short sequence, sometimes on a topic of their choice, in front of the recruiter or the pedagogical team. Offering it in your letter shows confidence and saves the recruiter a step.

Can I train in English in France?

Yes for language training and some corporate programmes in international companies. Most funded training for jobseekers and apprentices is delivered in French, so state your level of French clearly and the subjects you can teach in each language.

How long should a trainer's cover letter be?

One page, four short paragraphs. The organisation will judge your teaching in a demonstration, so the letter only needs to prove that you match the subject, the audience and the format. Leave your pedagogical philosophy for the interview.
