IT project manager resume example

A chef de projet informatique delivers IT projects on time and within budget: a new HR software rollout, the migration of a billing system to the cloud, an app for field technicians.

French organisations often split the role in two. On the business side (MOA or AMOA), you gather users' needs, write the specifications and organise acceptance testing (recette). On the technical side (MOE), you coordinate developers, architects and vendors who build the solution. In both cases, you plan the project, track risks, chair steering committees (COPIL) and keep everyone informed. Many projects now run in agile or hybrid mode, so you may also act as product owner or work closely with one. The job is mostly meetings, documents and arbitration, with enough technical understanding to challenge estimates and vendors.

Tips

  • For each project, give the goal, team size, budget level and your exact role.
  • Say whether you work on the business side (AMOA) or the technical side (MOE), as French ads use these terms.
  • Mention the methods and certifications you actually use: agile, V-cycle, PMP, PRINCE2.
  • Show results: go-live date met, users trained, legacy system shut down.
  • Keep technical skills visible, since recruiters check you can talk to developers.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Describing projects with the team's achievements and no sign of your own decisions.
  • Listing methodologies without examples of use.
  • Hiding projects that went badly instead of explaining what you learned.
  • Using only internal project names that mean nothing outside the company.

Working as an IT project manager in France

IT project manager is not regulated in France. Employers usually expect a Bac+5 from an engineering school, a university master's in computer science or information systems (MIAGE), or a business school with an IT specialisation, plus several years as developer, analyst or consultant. Certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2 or Scrum help but do not replace delivered projects. Many posts are with ESN consultancies placed at clients. Search with « chef de projet informatique », « chef de projet MOA », « chef de projet MOE », « chef de projet AMOA » and « chef de projet digital ».

Frequently asked questions

What do MOA and MOE mean in French IT job ads?

MOA (maîtrise d'ouvrage) is the business owner of the project, and AMOA is the team that assists it with requirements and testing. MOE (maîtrise d'œuvre) is the side that builds the solution. A chef de projet MOA and a chef de projet MOE do quite different work.

Is a PMP or PRINCE2 certification useful in France?

It helps, especially in large groups and consultancies, but French recruiters care more about the projects you have delivered. Agile certifications such as PSM or SAFe are often requested for digital projects. Add them to your CV with the year obtained.

Can I manage IT projects in France in English?

In international groups and some tech companies, yes. Most projects in French companies, public bodies and insurers run in French, with French specifications and users. A good level of French broadens your options considerably.
