Warehouse team leader cover letter example

Site managers want a team leader who will get the trucks out on time with the team he or she has that day, without cutting corners on safety.

Your letter should describe the shift you led, how you organise work and one situation where things went wrong. Keep it short and concrete.

For [x] years I have led the morning shift in a retail warehouse supplying stores in the region, with a team of pickers and forklift drivers that grows with temporary staff in peak periods. I am writing about the team leader position at your [City] distribution centre.

I start each shift by checking the order pool and expected trucks in the WMS, then assign people to receiving, picking and loading. When one area falls behind, I move people or drive a forklift myself so that store trucks leave on time. During the last year-end peak, a large part of the team was temporary. I set up a buddy system pairing each newcomer with an experienced picker for the first days, which reduced errors and helped several of them stay for the following season.

I hold CACES R489 categories 1B, 3 and 5 and an SST certificate. Safety is part of each start-of-shift briefing, especially on forklift and pedestrian traffic.

Yes. It shows your employer trusted you and that you know the floor. Explain briefly how you handled leading former colleagues, because recruiters often ask about it. One sentence in the letter is enough.

Can I apply as team leader without managerial experience?

It is possible if you replaced a team leader, trained colleagues or acted as a key user on a site. Present these as leadership experience. Otherwise, consider a référent or assistant team leader role first.
