Forklift driver cover letter example

The recruiter wants to see quickly which trucks you can drive and in what conditions. Name your CACES categories, the lift heights and environments you know, and how you handle loading deadlines.

One sentence on safety habits often makes the difference.

Subject: Application: Forklift Driver (CACES R489 cat. 3 and 5), [Company]

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am applying for the forklift driver position at your [City] platform. I have [x] years of experience in logistics warehouses and I hold CACES R489 categories 1B, 3 and 5.

At [Previous company], I unloaded inbound lorries, checked deliveries against the notes and put pallets away at height on a reach truck, following the locations given by the WMS. I also replenished picking locations before the morning shift, so that pickers did not wait for stock. At the end of the day I loaded trailers in delivery order for multi-drop routes, which requires checking every pallet before it goes in.

I do my pre-use checks seriously and report any fault on the truck or damage on the racking. I am careful in mixed zones with pedestrians, and I have never had an accident in my years of driving. I am used to working in a team with dock agents and pickers, especially during busy periods.

I can work in 2x8 shifts and on Saturdays when needed. I am available from [date] and ready to do a driving test on your site.

Yours faithfully,[First Name Last Name][Phone] | [Email]

Frequently asked questions

Will I have to do a driving test?

Very often, yes. Even with a valid CACES, the employer must issue a driving authorisation and usually checks your driving on site. Treat it calmly: do your pre-use check, drive smoothly and pay attention to pedestrians. Recruiters watch your caution as much as your speed.

Can I use a forklift licence obtained abroad?

In practice, French employers rarely accept a foreign certificate as it stands. Expect to take the CACES R489 test in France for the categories you need. Your experience abroad will make the training shorter and still counts on your resume.

Should I mention other jobs I can do in the warehouse?

Yes. Many sites want forklift drivers who can also pick, receive or count stock. Mention these tasks briefly; it shows flexibility and increases your chances when volumes vary or when the site needs cover during holidays.
