Warehouse manager cover letter example

For a site manager role, the letter should read like a short management summary. Directors want to see that you can hold service, costs, safety and social climate together, especially at peak.

Pick one situation that shows this balance and link your experience to the type of site you are applying for.

Subject: Application: Warehouse Manager (Responsable d'entrepôt), [Company], [City]

Dear [Recruiter's Name],

I currently manage an e-commerce fulfilment centre for a third-party logistics provider, with team leaders on two shifts and a large temporary workforce during peaks, and I am writing about the warehouse manager position at your [City] site.

My role covers the whole site: daily performance with the team leaders, staffing plans with our temporary agencies, the budget and the relationship with our main client. Last year I led the migration to a new WMS. We ran tests on a small area for several weeks, trained key users on each shift and switched over during a low-volume weekend, so shipping continued normally the following Monday.

Safety is the first item of each morning meeting. After several minor forklift incidents, I worked with the CSE on a plan combining separated pedestrian lanes and refresher training, and incidents dropped in the following months. Your group is opening a mechanised site, and I would like to apply this approach to a larger and more automated operation.

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss your project with you.

Yours sincerely,[First Name Last Name]

What to highlight

  • Type and scale of site you managed
  • Results across service, productivity and safety
  • Management of team leaders and temporary staff
  • A major project: opening, WMS migration, automation
  • Relationship with clients or head office

Mistakes to avoid

  • Listing tasks instead of showing management decisions.
  • Leaving out safety and social dialogue.
  • Writing about leadership values without a single situation.
  • Using a generic letter for a 3PL client site and an in-house distribution centre.

Frequently asked questions

How do I present results without exact figures?

Describe the change in words: fewer errors after a process change, a peak absorbed without overtime, incidents reduced after a safety plan. You can give exact figures in interview if your employer allows it. Avoid invented percentages: directors will ask how you measured them.

Should I address the letter to HR or the operations director?

If the ad names the operations or regional director, address it to them. Otherwise write to the HR contact. In both cases the content should speak to the operations director, who will make the decision.

Is it worth mentioning relations with unions?

A short mention of constructive work with the CSE or staff representatives is useful, because French sites have formal social dialogue. Keep it factual and avoid describing conflicts in detail.
