Real estate agent cover letter example

An agency director reads a cover letter as a sales pitch. They want to see that you understand how an agency earns money (mandates, then sales), that you know their area and that you will prospect without being pushed.

Be concrete about your results and your local knowledge, and keep the tone confident without exaggeration.

Subject: Application for Real Estate Negotiator, [Agency name], [Neighbourhood]

Dear [Director's name],

I am applying for the real estate negotiator position at your agency in [Neighbourhood]. I have lived in this area for [x] years and I know its streets, its buildings and the type of buyers it attracts, including many international families moving for work.

For the past [x] years I have worked as a negotiator at [Agency] in [City]. I built my portfolio mainly through door-to-door prospecting and partnerships with two local notaries, and I learned to win exclusive mandates by presenting sellers with a clear valuation based on recent sales and a marketing plan. I follow each file from the first viewing to the signature of the deed, coordinating with the buyer's bank and the notary.

I speak English and French fluently, which has helped me support foreign buyers through steps they often find confusing, such as the cooling-off period after the compromis or the role of the notary. I am comfortable with your listing software and with the anti-money laundering checks required on each sale.

I would welcome the chance to discuss how I could contribute to your agency's growth in [Neighbourhood].

Kind regards,[First Name Last Name][Phone] | [Email]

Frequently asked questions

Should I apply as an employee or as an independent agent?

Both exist in France. Employees receive a contract, often a base salary plus commission. Independent agents (agents commerciaux) work under a commercial contract, register as self-employed and are paid on commission only. Say in your letter which status you are looking for, or that you are open to both.

Can I work in real estate in France with limited French?

Some agencies, especially in tourist areas or large cities, look for agents who can serve international buyers. You will still need enough French to deal with notaries, banks and French sellers, and to read mandates and contracts. Mention your level honestly and any language courses.

Do I need a professional card to apply?

No, not as a negotiator. The professional card is held by the agency's legal representative. If you join an agency, it provides you with an attestation (habilitation) allowing you to negotiate on its behalf. Training obligations still apply, so mention any real estate training you have completed.
