Sales advisor cover letter example

The recruiter is often a branch or regional sales manager who reads dozens of applications from people who 'love selling'. What stands out is a letter that names the product you would sell, the customers you know and how you handle the period between quote and signature.

Show that you understand the commission model and that you sell in a way that does not generate complaints or cancellations.

Subject: Application for Sales Advisor position, [Agency or branch], ref. [Reference]

Dear [Manager's name],

Your [City] agency is looking for a sales advisor to sell its heat pump and insulation offers. Homeowners often hesitate for months before committing to this kind of work, and helping them reach a clear decision is the part of the job I enjoy most.

For the past [x] years I have sold fitted kitchens at [Company], mostly through appointments in our showroom and at customers' homes. I start every meeting by measuring the room and asking how the family uses it, then build a quote with them, including financing when it is needed. I follow up each open quote within a week and keep notes in the CRM so that the next conversation starts where the last one stopped. A good share of my appointments now comes from customers who recommended me to friends.

I would like to move into energy renovation because the questions customers ask are more technical and the projects longer, which suits the way I work. I have started learning about the public grants your customers rely on, and I am used to working closely with installers to keep promises made at signature.

I hold a driving licence and can cover the whole [Department]. I am available for an interview at your convenience, and I would like to hear how your appointments are generated and followed up.

Kind regards,[First Name Last Name][Phone] | [Email]

Frequently asked questions

Should I mention commission in my cover letter?

Do not negotiate in the letter, but showing that you are comfortable with a variable package is useful. One sentence such as 'I have worked on a fixed plus commission basis for [x] years' tells the recruiter that the pay model will not be a surprise for you.

How do I apply if my sales experience is from another country?

Describe the product, the price range, the type of customer and how leads were generated. Then show you know the French context: consumer rights such as the withdrawal period, and, for some products, the specific training required to sell credit or insurance. That reassures a French manager.

Is a cover letter still read for sales advisor jobs?

Often only briefly, but a short, specific letter can get you a call before candidates with a similar resume. Keep it under a page and use it to show how you would talk to the company's customers, since that is what the manager is really testing.
