Travel agent cover letter example

Agency managers hire people who can sell trips and look after clients. The letter should combine customer skills, booking tools and destination knowledge, and show that you understand the commercial side.

A specific example of a trip you built or a problem you solved says more than a general love of travel.

Subject: Application: travel consultant, [Agency], [City]

Dear [Agency Manager's Name],

I am applying for the travel consultant post at your agency in [City]. I hold a BTS Tourisme and have worked for [x] years in a leisure agency, where I sell packages, cruises and tailor-made trips to families and couples.

Most of my clients come in with an idea rather than a plan. I take time to understand their budget and their pace, then I suggest one or two clear options. Last year, I built a three-week trip through [Country] for a family with young children, combining internal flights, car hire and hotels with pools, and they have since come back for two more trips.

I am used to working with tour operator systems and Amadeus, and to managing after-sales issues: when flights to [Destination] were cancelled during a strike, I rebooked my clients on alternative routes and handled their insurance claims. I speak English and Spanish fluently.

Your agency specialises in Asia, a region I know from several trips and a tour operator training on Japan. I would be glad to discuss how I could contribute to your team.

Yours sincerely,[First Name Last Name]

Frequently asked questions

Should I write differently for a business travel agency?

Yes. Business travel agencies look for speed, accuracy with fares and changes, and the ability to respect a company's travel policy. Mention your GDS skills, your handling of urgent changes, and any corporate client experience rather than leisure sales or destination stories.

Can I apply in English?

For agencies serving international clients or business travel teams in global groups, English may be accepted. For most French agencies, write in French, since clients and tour operators work in French. Mention your English level in the letter.

How do I mention sales results without figures?

Describe what you sold and how: types of trips, add-ons like insurance and excursions, repeat clients. You can say you regularly met your targets without giving numbers. The manager will ask for details in the interview if needed.
