Full stack developer cover letter example

Tech recruiters and lead developers read cover letters quickly, if at all. When they do, they want to see that you have looked at their product, that you know their stack and that you can explain one technical choice you made.

Keep it short and concrete.

Subject: Application: Full Stack Developer (React / Node.js), [Company]

Hello [Recruiter's name],

I am applying for the full stack developer position at [Company]. I tested your scheduling app for small clinics before writing to you, and I can see why your team is investing in performance on the mobile interface.

For the past [x] years, I have worked at [Previous Company], a SaaS for property managers, on a React and Node.js stack with PostgreSQL. I built the tenant payment module end to end. The hardest part was not the interface but making sure payment webhooks were handled only once; I set up an idempotency key and a retry queue, which ended the duplicate payment tickets.

I enjoy working in small teams where developers talk directly with users. I write tests for the parts that carry risk, I review code in detail and I prefer to raise an estimate problem early rather than at the end of the sprint.

Your stack is close to mine and your product addresses a problem I find concrete. I would be glad to discuss it with your team, and I can share code samples if useful.

Best regards,[First Name Last Name][GitHub link][Phone]

Frequently asked questions

Do tech companies in France really read cover letters?

Many startups read a short message rather than a formal letter, often in the application form. ESNs and larger companies may still ask for a classic letter. In both cases, a few lines showing you have looked at the product and the stack set you apart from mass applications.

Should I mention salary expectations?

Only if the form asks. In France, the question usually comes in the first call with the recruiter. Check the salary range in the ad, as many tech companies now publish it, and prepare a figure based on your experience and the city.

How do I apply as a bootcamp graduate?

Highlight your final project, any work-study or freelance experience, and what you learned since the bootcamp. Show regular progress, such as contributions on GitHub, tests added to your projects or a new framework learned. Your previous career can also be a strength if it relates to the product.
