Farm worker cover letter example

Farmers often read applications themselves and hire on trust. Show that you understand their type of production, that you are available at the times the farm needs you and that you can be left alone with machines or animals.

A short, direct letter fits the sector better than a polished one.

Subject: Application for Farm Worker position, [Farm name]

Dear [Farmer's name],

Your farm in [Village] combines a dairy herd with cereal crops, and that is the kind of mixed farm where I have spent the last [x] years. I would like to apply for the farm worker position you are offering.

At [Previous farm] I milked twice a day, fed the herd, monitored animals for signs of illness and helped with calving. In the fields I prepared soil, drove tractors with seed drills and trailers and took part in the cereal harvest. I also took on first-level maintenance of the machinery: greasing, oil and filter changes and checks before each season. When the farmer was away I ran the daily work on my own.

I hold the CAPa Métiers de l'agriculture, the Certiphyto and a driving licence with trailer. I live in [Town], [x] kilometres from your farm, and I can start early in the morning without difficulty.

I would be glad to come and meet you on the farm and work a trial day if that suits you.

Kind regards,[First Name Last Name][Phone] | [Email]

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find farm worker jobs in France?

Look at regional employment groups for farmers (groupements d'employeurs), the regional chambers of agriculture, the APECITA job board for more technical posts and France Travail. Many jobs are also filled by word of mouth, so contacting farms directly works well.

What should I know about seasonal contracts?

Agriculture uses specific seasonal contracts, including a contract for the grape harvest. They are short and tied to a season, and accommodation is sometimes offered. Check working hours, pay and accommodation conditions in writing before you travel.

Is the letter needed for a seasonal job?

For picking or harvest work, a phone call or a short message with your availability and previous seasons is often enough. For a permanent post on a farm, a short letter that shows you know the production and the region makes a real difference.
