Fruit picker cover letter example

Fruit growers rarely ask for a full cover letter. A short message, by email or through a job platform, is usually enough. It should say when you are available, which crops you know, and how you will reach the farm.

Growers want pickers who stay until the end of the season.

Subject: Fruit picker for the cherry and apricot season, [Farm]

Hello,

I am writing to offer my help for the cherry and apricot harvest at [Farm]. I am available from [date] to [date] and would like to work the full season with you.

Last summer, I picked cherries and apricots on an orchard near [Town] for [x] weeks. I learned to pick by colour and size, to handle fruit carefully so that it does not bruise, and to work safely on ladders. When it rained, I helped in the packing station with sorting and filling crates.

I have my own car and can be at the farm early in the morning. I am also equipped with my own tent if you have a camping area, or I can rent accommodation nearby. I am used to working in the heat and I keep a steady pace over the day.

I can send you the contact details of my previous employer if you wish. I am available for a phone call at any time on [phone number].

Best regards,[First Name Last Name]

Frequently asked questions

Can international students work as fruit pickers in France?

EU students can work freely. Non-EU students with a valid student residence permit can work part-time within the legal limit of hours per year, which includes seasonal work. Check your permit conditions before applying, and keep a copy ready, as the grower must check it.

Is a reference from a previous farm useful?

Yes. Growers trust other growers. A phone number or a short note from a previous farm saying you stayed the whole season can make the difference, especially at the start of the season when many people apply at once.

Should I apply in French?

If you can, yes, even with simple sentences. Most growers and team leaders speak French only. Some farms working with international seasonal workers accept English, but a few lines in French show you will understand instructions in the orchard.
