Deli butcher and caterer cover letter example

The owner of an artisan charcuterie wants to know which products you make, whether you can handle catering orders and if you will be there in December.

A short, concrete letter that mentions the shop, your apprenticeship and two or three signature products is more convincing than a long text. Offering a trial day is common and welcome.

Subject: Application for Charcutier-Traiteur position, [Shop name]

Dear [Owner's name],

During a weekend in [City], I stopped in front of your window: the pâtés en croûte and the catering platters on display are the kind of work I want to do every day. When I saw that [Shop name] was looking for a charcutier-traiteur, I decided to write to you.

I trained as an apprentice at [Shop] in [City], where I earned my CAP and then my BP Charcutier-traiteur. Over [x] years there, I learned to make the full range: terrines, rillettes, cooked ham, boudin noir and boudin blanc, and pâté en croûte from the forcemeat to the jelly. I also prepared the daily dishes and salads, and took charge of catering orders for weddings and company events, from the quote to the delivery.

I keep cooking and cooling records carefully, label allergens on every product and help keep the workshop clean and organised. I enjoy serving customers as well and explaining how to serve or reheat our dishes.

I am available on weekends and throughout the festive season. A trial day in your workshop is the best way for you to judge my pâté en croûte, and I can come whenever it suits you.

Kind regards,[First Name Last Name][Phone] | [Email]

Frequently asked questions

Should I send photos of my work?

Yes, a few good photos of your pâté en croûte, terrines or buffet platters can help, either in a short portfolio or a link. Keep them clean and well lit, and make sure they show your own work.

Is a cover letter necessary for artisan shops?

Many owners hire after a phone call and a trial day, but a short letter sent with your resume helps them decide to call you. It shows your training, your products and your availability in a few lines.

Can I apply for an apprenticeship as an adult?

Yes. Apprenticeships are open to adults in many cases, and adult training centres also offer the CAP Charcutier-traiteur. Explain your motivation, your previous experience in food if any, and your availability for the workshop schedule.
