Quality technician cover letter example

For a quality technician, the letter should show that you protect the customer without blocking production for nothing. Give an example of a defect you contained and analysed, mention the standards and measuring tools you know, and show you can talk with operators as easily as with auditors.

Subject: Application: Quality Technician, [Company] [City]

Dear [Mr/Ms Last Name],

I am interested in the quality technician position at your [City] plant. For [x] years at [Company], an automotive supplier, I have handled the quality of a plastic injection workshop, from incoming inspection to customer complaints.

Last year, a customer reported cracked clips on parts that had passed our final inspection. I organised the sorting of our stock and of the parts in transit within the day, then led the 8D analysis with production and maintenance. The cracks came from a mould temperature drift that our checks did not catch. We added a temperature alarm on the press and an extra inspection at start-up, and the customer closed the complaint after the verification period.

I program inspection routines on our Zeiss CMM, follow SPC charts on critical dimensions and run process audits each month. Working under IATF 16949 has taught me to keep records that stand up to an audit.

I would be pleased to discuss your products and quality organisation with you.

Kind regards,[First Name Last Name][Phone] | [Email]

Frequently asked questions

Should I mention customer complaints I handled?

Yes, described in general terms. Explain the type of defect, your containment action, the root cause and the result, without naming the customer if it is confidential. This is exactly the kind of situation a quality manager wants to see you handle.

Can I move from food to mechanical quality?

Yes, with some adaptation. The problem-solving and audit methods are the same, but metrology and drawing reading become central in mechanics. Mention any training in measurement or GD&T to show you are ready.

How formal should the tone be?

Professional and factual. Quality managers appreciate precise vocabulary and a structured letter, since that is what they expect in your reports. Avoid long lists of qualities and keep one strong example.
