Quality technician resume example

A quality technician (technicien qualité) checks that products and processes meet the specifications, on the shop floor rather than from an office.

The day often begins with the overnight non-conformities: a batch blocked by an operator, a dimension out of tolerance, a customer complaint. You inspect parts on the CMM or with gauges, decide with production whether to sort, rework or scrap, and open the problem-solving file. Other recurring tasks include incoming inspection of supplier deliveries, first-article inspection for new parts, process audits on workstations, calibration of measuring instruments and statistical process control charts. In sectors such as automotive, aerospace or medical devices, you work with demanding standards (IATF 16949, EN 9100, ISO 13485) and keep the traceability records auditors will ask for.

Tips

  • Name the standards of your sector and the audits you prepared or attended.
  • Show a non-conformity you followed to its root cause, not only detection.
  • Specify your measuring tools and CMM software level.
  • Mention your link with production: audits, training of operators, QRQC meetings.
  • Distinguish inspection tasks from quality system tasks.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Presenting yourself as a quality manager when your role is shop-floor control.
  • Listing standards without saying how you applied them.
  • Forgetting metrology, which is the core of many technician jobs.
  • No sector mentioned, while requirements change a lot between them.

Working as a quality technician in France

Search for technicien qualité, technicien contrôle qualité, contrôleur qualité, technicien métrologie or technicien qualité fournisseur. Common diplomas are the BUT Qualité, logistique industrielle et organisation (QLIO), the BUT Mesures physiques, the BTS of the relevant technical field and licences professionnelles in quality. The job is not regulated, so foreign experience is assessed on your practical skills. Requirements depend heavily on the sector: IATF 16949 in automotive, EN 9100 in aerospace, ISO 13485 for medical devices and good manufacturing practice in pharmaceuticals. French ads often ask for knowledge of 8D, SPC and metrology, plus working French for audits and shop-floor exchanges.

Frequently asked questions

Is technicien qualité the same as contrôleur qualité?

Not quite. A contrôleur qualité mainly inspects parts and records results. A technicien qualité also analyses non-conformities, runs audits and drives corrective actions. Use the title that matches your actual missions, as recruiters will check in interview.

Should I mention specific customer requirements?

Yes, without confidential details. Saying you worked to automotive manufacturers' requirements or aerospace first-article inspection shows you know the expected level of rigour and documentation. Recruiters in the same sector will recognise these requirements immediately.

Are quality certifications useful?

An internal auditor training on ISO 9001 or IATF 16949, or a Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt, is worth a line. Practical experience of problem solving on real defects still weighs more for technician roles.
