Childminder cover letter example

Parents choosing a childminder read your message to decide whether to visit your home. They want to know where you are, how many places you have, from when, and how you organise the day.

Write a warm but precise message; the real decision happens during the visit.

Subject: Childminder in [Neighbourhood]: place available from [date]

Hello,

I saw your request on the relais petite enfance list for a childminder from [date] for your [age]-month-old son. I am an approved assistante maternelle in [Neighbourhood], a short walk from [landmark], and I have one place available for a child of that age.

I have been approved for [x] years. I currently look after two children, aged eighteen months and two years. Mornings are for activities and outings: the relais twice a week, the park or the library. After lunch, each child sleeps in his own bed in a quiet room, then we play and read until parents arrive. I adapt this rhythm to younger babies, who keep their own feeding and sleeping times.

Every evening, parents find a short note in a shared notebook about meals, naps and the day's moments. I prefer to agree on habits such as comforters, food and the way to settle the child before the first day, during an adaptation period of a week or two.

I would be happy to welcome you for a visit so you can see the house and the play area, and to answer your questions about the contract and the timetable.

Kind regards,[First name Last name][Phone number]

Frequently asked questions

Should I write to parents in French or English?

Write in the language of the family's request. In some areas expatriate families look for a bilingual childminder and this is a real asset, so mention it. Remember that your contract, the Pajemploi declarations and your exchanges with the PMI will be in French.

Is it acceptable to send the same message to several families?

Keep a base text but adapt the opening: the child's age, the start date and the family's hours. Parents notice a copied message, and those details show you have checked that your place really fits their needs.

When should I talk about pay?

During the visit or a phone call, not in the first message. Pay is set per child and per hour, with meal and maintenance allowances, and must respect the collective agreement minimum. Prepare a clear explanation, because many first-time parents are unsure how the contract works.
