Bricklayer cover letter example

Most building companies hiring a maçon decide quickly and often by phone. A short letter or message still helps when you apply by email or for an apprenticeship.

The site manager wants to know what you can build, which sites you have done and whether you are available.

Subject: Candidature maçon, disponible à partir du [date]

Dear [Mr/Ms Last name],

I am applying for the maçon position at [Company]. I have a CAP maçon and [x] years of experience in a company building detached houses around [City]. I have worked on foundations, block walls, slabs and lintels, and I regularly set up formwork and reinforcement.

I have also worked on renovation sites, where I opened load-bearing walls with propping and rebuilt old stone walls with lime mortar. I like this varied work, which requires care and attention to the existing building.

I have a driving licence and my own vehicle, and I can work on sites within [x] km of [City]. I hold the CACES for site equipment and have been trained in scaffold assembly. I am used to working in a team of two or three with a team leader.

I can come to one of your sites for a trial day from [date]. The easiest way to reach me is by phone at [phone], including at lunchtime.

Kind regards,[First name Last name]

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a letter if I apply through a temp agency?

No. Agencies ask for your CV, diploma, CACES and identity documents, then call you when a site needs a maçon. A letter is useful when you write directly to a building company, especially a small one where the boss reads every application personally, or when you look for an apprenticeship contract.

How do I apply for an apprenticeship in masonry?

Register with a CFA du BTP or a Compagnons du Devoir house, then visit building companies with your CV. Bosses often hire the apprentice who came to the site office in work boots and asked when they could start. Say which diploma you are preparing (CAP maçon, BP), the alternance rhythm and any days spent helping on a family build.

Should I mention I can do a trial day?

Yes. Many small building companies like to see a maçon at work before hiring. Offering a trial day or a short temporary assignment shows confidence in your skills and can speed up the decision.
