Tiler cover letter example

Tiling companies judge you on your finish, so your letter should prove that you know what lies under it: substrate, waterproofing, layout. Mention the kind of rooms and materials you have worked on, and propose a trial job or photos, since that is how employers check a tiler's level.

Subject: Application for Tiler, bathroom renovation

Dear [Manager's name],

The walk-in showers in the photos on your website are the kind of finish I aim for, and your bathroom and kitchen renovation work in [City] matches my experience. I am writing about your tiler vacancy.

I hold a CAP Carreleur mosaïste and have worked for [x] years at [Company]. I handle bathroom renovations from start to finish once the plumber has done the first fix: removing old tiles, preparing and levelling the substrate, installing the waterproofing system, laying floor and wall tiles and finishing the joints. I build level-access showers with a sloped screed and a linear drain, and I am comfortable with large-format porcelain tiles, which most of our clients now choose.

I also take time with clients to agree on the layout before laying the first row, so that cuts end up where they will not be seen. I work alone or with a helper and I have my own hand tools.

I can send you photos of recent jobs and I would be glad to meet you.

Kind regards,[First Name Last Name][Phone] | [Email]

Mistakes to avoid

  • Not mentioning waterproofing when applying to a bathroom specialist.
  • Talking only about the visible finish and nothing about preparation.
  • Promising stone or mosaic expertise you cannot show in photos.
  • Writing a long letter: one page at most, often less.

Frequently asked questions

Should I attach photos to my application?

Yes, two to five clear pictures are useful, or a link to a short online album. Choose finished rooms with visible alignments, cuts around fittings and clean joints. Say what you did yourself on each job, especially if you worked in a team.

Do I need to mention French technical standards?

You do not need to quote them, but you should show you know the rules for adhesives, joints and wet areas. A sentence such as 'I follow the manufacturer's system for waterproofing under tiles' tells an employer more than a list of standard references.

What if I trained abroad?

Describe your training and the type of work you did, then focus on materials and techniques common in France: thin-bed adhesive, large formats and waterproofing systems. A trial day is often the deciding factor for tiling employers, whatever the diploma.
