Subject: Application: technicien de laboratoire médical, [Laboratory], [City]

Dear [Name],

Four years in a hospital laboratory have taught me to keep the automated lines running at any hour, and I would now like to bring that experience to [Laboratory] as technicien de laboratoire médical. I hold a BTS analyses de biologie médicale and rotate between biochemistry, haematology and the emergency unit.

My daily work includes running the automated lines, performing calibrations and quality controls, and reviewing flagged results. In haematology, I read the blood smears selected by the analyser and alert the biologist when I see abnormal cells. I also take part in night shifts, where I handle the emergency analyses alone with the biologist on call.

Your laboratory is preparing the extension of its accreditation to microbiology. I took part in the preparation of our COFRAC audit in haematology, writing procedures and recording non-conformities, and I would like to contribute to this project while continuing to work in the routine sections.

I am available for an interview and, if useful, for a trial day in the laboratory.

Yours sincerely,[First Name Last Name]

Frequently asked questions

Is it different to apply to a private laboratory group?

Yes. Private groups often run several sites with a central technical platform and smaller sampling sites. Mention your flexibility between sites, your blood sampling certificate and your ease with patient reception if the post includes it.

Can I apply to the EFS or research laboratories?

Yes. The Établissement français du sang and research laboratories also hire technicians. For the EFS, highlight immunohaematology and blood typing; for research, molecular biology and the techniques used by the team.

Can I apply to a hospital laboratory without on-call experience?

Yes, but expect the question in the interview. Hospital laboratories run around the clock, and new technicians are usually trained on the emergency section before working nights alone. Say that you are willing to join the rota and mention any time you have run a section on your own, even during the day.
