Subject: Application: Quality Control Laboratory Technician, [Company]

Dear [Mr/Ms Last Name],

I am applying for the quality control technician position in your [City] laboratory. I have worked for [x] years in the QC lab of [Company], a manufacturer of generic medicines, where I run release analyses on raw materials and finished products.

My routine work includes HPLC assays, dissolution tests and Karl Fischer water content, all recorded under GMP in our LIMS. Last year, an assay result came out slightly below specification on a batch that production considered normal. Before concluding, I checked the sample preparation, the system suitability and the standard solution, and found that the reference standard had been stored outside its conditions. The investigation, conducted with my supervisor, confirmed the batch was compliant and led to a change in our standard storage procedure.

I also maintain and calibrate our HPLC systems and help train new technicians on documentation rules. I am available to work in 2x8 when the release schedule requires it.

I would be happy to discuss your laboratory and its activities.

Kind regards,[First Name Last Name][Phone] | [Email]

Frequently asked questions

Should I apply with a foreign chemistry degree?

Yes, industrial labs are not regulated and assess your practical skills. Give your degree name, level and the instruments you used. A comparability statement from ENIC-NARIC France can help an HR department understand your diploma.

Is a letter needed for temp missions in laboratories?

Temp agencies placing lab technicians mostly look at your resume, but a short message stating your techniques, sector and availability dates helps them match you with pharmaceutical or food missions quickly.

How do I show rigour without sounding generic?

Tell a short story: a result that looked wrong, what you checked and what you found. That proves rigour far better than adjectives, and it is a question you will be asked in interview anyway.
