Pharmacy technician cover letter example

The pharmacist who reads your letter is usually the owner, who also works at the counter. They want a technician who is reliable on dispensing, comfortable with their software and able to take on part of the back office.

Keep it short, specific to the pharmacy, and state your diploma and availability early.

Subject: Application: préparatrice en pharmacie, [Pharmacy name]

Dear [Mr/Ms Last name],

I saw your notice for a préparatrice en pharmacie at [Pharmacy name] and would like to apply. I obtained my diploma in [year] after an apprenticeship at a pharmacy in [City], where I then stayed on a permanent contract. I work daily with LGPI, which I believe you also use.

At the counter I handle prescriptions, over-the-counter advice and Carte Vitale billing. Behind the scenes I manage the daily wholesaler orders and the weekly pill organisers for a nursing home of around [x] residents, a task that requires a careful routine and a systematic check with the pharmacist. Last year I also completed a certificate in orthopaedics and now fit compression garments and braces.

Your pharmacy is close to a medical centre and has a large orthopaedics corner, so I think this experience could be useful quickly. I can work Saturdays and take part in duty days.

I can drop by the pharmacy outside rush hours if you would like to meet. I can be reached at [phone] or [email].

Kind regards,[First name Last name]

What to highlight

  • Your diploma and year of qualification
  • The software and order routines you know
  • A specialty you can bring (orthopaedics, dermocosmetics, pill organisers)
  • Your availability for Saturdays and duty days
  • Why this pharmacy, in one concrete sentence

Mistakes to avoid

  • Not stating your diploma in the first lines.
  • Writing a long letter that a busy owner will not read between two customers.
  • Talking only about customer service and leaving out dispensing and stock.
  • Ignoring the pharmacy's specific profile (medical centre nearby, nursing home contracts, tourist area).

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to drop my application in person?

In community pharmacy, dropping your CV and letter in person works well, as long as you come at a quiet time, mid-morning or mid-afternoon, and ask for the owner. Send the same documents by email afterwards so they have a digital copy.

How do I apply for an apprenticeship as a pharmacy technician?

You need both a training centre place and a pharmacy that agrees to sign the apprenticeship contract. In your letter, explain why you chose this profession, mention any experience with the public or with health, and show you understand you will work under the pharmacist's responsibility.

What should I change for a hospital pharmacy?

Talk about rigour, traceability and teamwork with the wards. Mention any experience with sterile preparations, medical devices or automated dispensing cabinets. Hospitals also value availability for rotating schedules, so state it if you can work weekends.
