Diagnostic radiographer cover letter example

The letter is read by the cadre de santé of the imaging or radiotherapy department, or by the manager of a private imaging centre. They want to know your modalities, your autonomy and your availability for on-call duty.

A short, factual letter with one concrete example works best.

Subject: Application: manipulateur radio position, [Department], [Hospital]

Dear [Name],

I am applying for the manipulateur en électroradiologie médicale position in your imaging department. I obtained my Diplôme d'État in [year] and have since worked in a general hospital, rotating between conventional radiology, CT and the emergency imaging unit.

In CT, I carry out examinations for A&E, inpatients and outpatients, including contrast injections after checking the patient's history and kidney function. During on-call nights, I often work alone with the radiologist on duty, which has taught me to prioritise requests and to stay rigorous on identity checks even when the pace is high.

Your department has recently installed a new MRI and is recruiting to extend its opening hours. I completed MRI placements during my training and an internal training course last year, and I would like to develop this skill while continuing to take my share of CT and on-call work.

I would be pleased to discuss the position and the department's organisation with you.

Yours sincerely,[First Name Last Name]

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a permanent post in a public hospital?

Public hospitals often hire on contract first, then offer titularisation through a concours sur titre, a competition based on your diploma and an interview. Mention your interest in a long-term post in the letter if that is your goal.

Is a private imaging centre different?

Yes. Private centres focus on outpatient volume, with scheduled appointments and fewer emergencies. Highlight efficiency, patient communication and your experience in CT and MRI, which are the main modalities in these centres.

Can I apply to radiotherapy if my experience is in imaging?

Yes, since the DE MERM covers both, but say so plainly. Mention your radiotherapy placements during training, your interest in the daily follow-up of cancer patients and your readiness to be trained on the centre's accelerators and positioning checks. Departments expect a training period for staff coming from imaging.
