Osteopath cover letter example

Osteopaths rarely answer classic job ads: the letter usually goes to a practice looking for a replacement or an associate, a multidisciplinary health centre or a sports club.

The reader wants to know your training, your patient focus and how you will fit with the people already working there.

Subject: Replacement and collaboration offer, osteopath, [Practice], [City]

Dear [Name],

I am an osteopath registered with the ARS since [year], trained at [School] in [City], and I am writing about the replacement you posted for your practice. For the past two years I have worked in a multidisciplinary practice with two physiotherapists and a midwife, where I see adults with back and neck pain as well as many pregnant women and infants.

My work with the midwife taught me to coordinate closely around post-natal care: she refers mothers and newborns to me, and I send her and the paediatrician a short note after each session when something needs medical follow-up. I also follow the young players of a local football club during the season.

Your practice is close to several sports clubs and you mention wanting to develop that patient group. I can bring this experience and I am available two days a week from [date], with the possibility of more days in the summer.

I would be pleased to meet you and see the practice.

Yours sincerely,[First Name Last Name], Osteopath (D.O.)

What to highlight

  • Your approved school and ARS registration
  • The patients you see most: infants, sportspeople, pregnant women
  • How you work with doctors and other therapists
  • Your availability for replacements or regular days
  • What you can add to the practice: a new patient group, a prevention activity

Mistakes to avoid

  • Talking about osteopathy as a medical treatment rather than a complementary approach.
  • Not mentioning your registration with the ARS.
  • Sending a generic letter without knowing the practice's patients.
  • Leaving out your availability, which is the first question in a replacement.

Frequently asked questions

Should I write to doctors to present my practice?

A short, factual letter to local doctors and midwives is a common way to introduce a new practice. Present your training, your areas of focus and your commitment to refer patients when needed. Keep the tone factual: doctors stop reading as soon as a letter sounds like an advertisement.

What do sports clubs look for in an osteopath?

Availability on training days and matches, experience with the sport, and good coordination with the club's physiotherapist and doctor. Mention any sports osteopathy training and your experience of a full season.

Can I apply in English?

Only to clinics with an international patient base. Patients in France expect to be received in French, and the history taking, consent and explanations all happen in French, so your letter should demonstrate it.
