Working as a security officer in France
Search for agent de sécurité, agent de prévention et de sécurité (APS), agent SSIAP for fire safety, agent cynophile for dog handlers and agent de sûreté aéroportuaire. Private security is regulated: you need a professional card from the CNAPS, obtained after training such as the APS professional title, a criminal record check and a check of French language level. Non-EU nationals must also have held a residence permit for a minimum period. Fire safety posts require SSIAP 1, 2 or 3 depending on the role. Airport screening, dog handling and close protection require their own qualifications.
How to read these figures
The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.
The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.
Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
