Working as a hotel receptionist in France
Search for réceptionniste, réceptionniste d'hôtel, employé de réception or, for night shifts, réceptionniste de nuit and night auditor (the English term is used in French ads). The job is not regulated. Usual French qualifications are the Bac techno STHR, the Bac pro Métiers de l'accueil, the Titre professionnel Réceptionniste en hôtellerie and the BTS Management en hôtellerie-restauration (option C, accommodation). Hotels must collect the tourist tax and have non-French guests fill in an individual police form. Most contracts follow the hotel and restaurant collective agreement (convention HCR), and a solid B2 in English is a common requirement in city hotels.
How to read these figures
The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.
The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.
Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
