Working as a ride-hailing driver in France
Chauffeur VTC is a regulated activity in France. You need the VTC professional card issued by the prefecture after an exam organised by the chambres de métiers et de l'artisanat, a licence B held for at least three years (two after accompanied driving), a clean criminal record, a recent PSC1 first aid certificate and a medical check by an approved doctor. The card is renewed every five years after continuing training. Vehicles must meet size and age rules and be registered in the VTC register, and pickups must be pre-booked. Search for « chauffeur VTC », « chauffeur privé » or « chauffeur de direction ».
How to read these figures
The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.
The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.
Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
