Working as a house cleaner in France
Search for femme de ménage, employé de ménage, employé familial or aide ménagère; in offices and buildings the title becomes agent d'entretien or agent de propreté, a different sector. The job is not regulated and no diploma is required. The titre professionnel Assistant de vie aux familles (ADVF) and a CAP in personal services help with home services companies. Work with private households is declared through CESU and covered by the national collective agreement for private employers and home employment. Families receive a tax credit for declared home help, which is why most clients insist on declared work. Non-EU candidates need a residence permit that allows work.
How to read these figures
The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.
The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.
Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
