Working as a hospital housekeeping assistant in France

Search for agent de service hospitalier (ASH), agent des services hospitaliers qualifié (ASHQ) in public hospitals, agent hôtelier hospitalier or agent de bionettoyage. No diploma is legally required. Helpful French qualifications are the CAP Agent de propreté et d'hygiène, the Bac pro Hygiène, propreté, stérilisation and the Titre professionnel Agent de service médico-social. In public hospitals, ASH can become civil servants without a written competitive exam. Many move on to the Diplôme d'État d'aide-soignant through training or VAE, often funded by their employer.

How to read these figures

The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.

The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.

Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
