Working as a beautician in France
Search for esthéticienne or esthéticien, praticienne spa, esthéticienne-cosméticienne or conseillère beauté in perfumery chains. The base diploma is the CAP Esthétique, cosmétique, parfumerie, followed by the BP Esthétique and the BTS Métiers de l'esthétique, de la cosmétique et de la parfumerie. Opening your own institut requires a recognised professional qualification in aesthetics or proven experience, and you register with the Chambre de métiers et de l'artisanat. Some techniques are tightly regulated: therapeutic massage belongs to physiotherapists, and devices such as lasers or pulsed light are subject to specific rules, so check what your diploma allows before offering them. Foreign qualifications are reviewed case by case.
How to read these figures
The salary shown is an average, not a median: a few high salaries pull the average up. It is net pay before income tax, converted to full time.
The gross figure is an estimate: it applies 2026 employee contributions for a private-sector worker to the net salary. It leaves out bonuses, overtime and health insurance.
Salaries are from 2024 while the minimum wage is the 2026 one, so the comparison gives an order of magnitude.
