Nursery assistant resume example

A nursery assistant in France (agent de crèche, auxiliaire petite enfance or animatrice petite enfance) looks after children under three in a crèche, a micro-crèche or a multi-accueil.

The day follows the children's rhythm. In the morning you welcome families and note how the night went, then you change nappies, offer snacks and set up play corners: water play, painting, books, songs. At lunch you help the youngest eat and encourage the older ones to use a spoon. Nap time means settling each child with their comforter and watching over the sleep room. In the afternoon come more activities, outdoor play and the evening handover, when you tell parents about the day. Between all this you clean toys, change areas and the kitchen according to the hygiene plan.

Summaries for your profile

Entry level

Holder of the CAP Accompagnant éducatif petite enfance with placements in a municipal crèche and a nursery school. I am at ease with nappy changes, bottle feeding and nap routines, and I enjoy preparing simple sensory activities for babies.

Experienced

Nursery assistant with [x] years in a [x]-place multi-accueil, mainly in the babies' section. I handle care routines, the settling-in period for new families and the daily handover. Colleagues often ask me to welcome children who struggle with separation.

Career change

After [x] years as a nanny for two families, I obtained the CAP AEPE through VAE. I want to bring my experience with babies into a crèche team, where I can work with an early years educator and follow a shared educational project.

Tips

  • Write your diploma at the top: CAP AEPE, auxiliaire de puériculture, or 'without diploma, with experience'.
  • Specify the age groups you have worked with: babies, middle section or older toddlers.
  • Name the type of structure: municipal crèche, associative, private, micro-crèche.
  • Mention child first-aid training and the year.
  • List practical activities you have led rather than general words like 'creativity'.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Confusing crèche assistant with auxiliaire de puériculture, which is a separate State-certified role.
  • Describing babysitting without stating ages, hours and responsibilities.
  • Forgetting to mention the settling-in period, which every crèche values.
  • Presenting holiday-camp work with children aged 6 to 12 as if it were care of babies, without stating the ages.

Working as a nursery assistant in France

Search for agent de crèche, auxiliaire petite enfance, accompagnant éducatif petite enfance, animatrice petite enfance or assistante d'équipe en crèche. The standard qualification is the CAP Accompagnant éducatif petite enfance (CAP AEPE), which can be prepared at school, through apprenticeship, as an adult or through VAE. It is different from auxiliaire de puériculture, a State diploma for a role with more care responsibilities, and from éducateur de jeunes enfants. Rules on staff qualifications in crèches allow some unqualified staff, but qualified profiles are preferred. Employers check your criminal record before hiring, and good spoken French is expected since you talk with parents every day.

Frequently asked questions

Can I work in a crèche without a French diploma?

Some support roles can be filled by people without a diploma, especially in micro-crèches, but most employers prefer the CAP AEPE or equivalent experience. You can prepare the CAP while working, or through VAE if you already have experience with young children.

Is babysitting relevant experience?

Yes, if you describe it precisely: the children's ages, how many, how long, and what you did (meals, baths, outings, homework). Regular care of a baby is more relevant than occasional evening babysitting of older children.

Should I mention my languages?

Yes. Bilingual crèches and those in international areas look for staff who can speak another language with children. Say which language and whether you are a native speaker, and give an example such as songs or picture books you use with children.
