Construction labourer resume example

A construction labourer (manœuvre) is the one who keeps a French building site moving. You arrive before the others start, unload pallets of blocks and bags of cement, carry materials to each floor, and prepare mortar or concrete in the mixer for the bricklayers.

During the day you dig small trenches, help set up formwork, sort and evacuate waste into the right skips, and clean tools and work areas so the next trade can start. On demolition jobs you strip interiors and load debris; on road works you may spread gravel or help the pipe layers. You work under the instructions of a skilled worker or the site supervisor, and you wear the required protective equipment at all times. It is physical work outdoors in all weather.

Tips

  • Put your reliability forward with facts: missions renewed, employers who asked for you again.
  • List the types of sites you have worked on: housing, roads, demolition, renovation.
  • Mention the tasks you can do alone, such as mixing concrete or using a breaker.
  • Include any safety training or certificates (first aid at work, CACES for a small machine).
  • Say if you have a driving licence and your own transport, as sites start early.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Sending a CV with no detail because 'it's only a labouring job'.
  • Leaving out short temp missions, which show experience.
  • Not mentioning the trade you would like to learn.
  • Giving a phone number you do not answer: agencies call quickly and move on.

Working as a construction labourer in France

Search for manœuvre, manœuvre BTP, aide-maçon, ouvrier polyvalent du bâtiment or manœuvre travaux publics. No diploma or certificate is legally required, which makes it a common entry point into construction, but you must have the right to work in France. Temp agencies are a major recruitment channel for this role. Every employee on a French construction site must carry the carte BTP, a professional identification card issued through the employer or agency. Employers provide protective equipment and safety induction, and adults can later prepare a CAP in masonry or another trade through training or validation of experience (VAE).

Frequently asked questions

Can I work as a labourer in France without experience?

Yes. No diploma or certificate is required, and many people start through temp agencies. What employers check is your reliability, your physical fitness and your respect for safety rules. Your right to work in France and a valid ID are essential.

How can I progress from labourer?

By learning a trade on the job and validating it. Many labourers move on to bricklayer, formwork carpenter or plant operator, through training courses, apprenticeships for adults or validation of experience (VAE). Mention on your CV which trade you want to move towards.

Should I list every temp mission?

Group them by agency or by period and list the main sites and tasks. Recruiters do not need every date, but they want to see that you have worked regularly and on varied sites.
