Drywall installer resume example

In France, the drywall installer (plaquiste) builds the inside of a building once the structure is closed.

Working from the architect's plans, you mark out the layout on the floor and ceiling, fix the metal rails and studs, insert mineral wool for thermal and acoustic insulation, then screw on plasterboard, usually the standard 13 mm board that French sites call BA13. You build partitions, suspended ceilings, wall linings and boxing around pipes, leaving openings for doors and electrical boxes in the right place. Then comes jointing: tape, joint compound and sanding until the surface is ready for the painter. On new-build sites you work in a team on large volumes; in renovation you adapt to walls that are never straight.

Tips

  • Specify the systems you install: partitions, linings with insulation, suspended ceilings, fire-rated or acoustic assemblies.
  • Say if you also do jointing, since some companies separate installers and jointers.
  • Mention your plan reading and setting-out skills, which distinguish a lead installer from a helper.
  • Include certifications such as working at height or scaffold assembly if you have them.
  • Indicate the type of sites: housing, offices, hospitals or shops have different requirements.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Writing 'plasterboard' without naming the types of partition or ceiling you build.
  • Omitting jointing skills, or claiming them when you only fix boards.
  • Leaving out renovation experience, which shows you can handle irregular walls.
  • Not mentioning your own tools or vehicle when applying to small subcontractors.

Working as a drywall installer in France

Search for plaquiste, plâtrier-plaquiste, poseur de cloisons, jointeur or monteur en cloisons sèches et faux plafonds. The trade is not regulated, but employers recognise the CAP Plâtrier-plaquiste and the Brevet Professionnel Plâtrerie et plaque. Work follows French technical standards (DTU) and the system specifications of board manufacturers, which site managers check at handover. A CACES certificate may be required to operate certain lifting platforms, and scaffolding assembly calls for specific training. Many plaquistes work as subcontractors or through temp agencies, and contractors on offices, hotels or hospitals expect installers to know the fire and acoustic rating each partition must reach.

Frequently asked questions

Is a drywall installer the same as a plasterer?

In France the trades overlap. A plâtrier traditionally applies wet plaster by hand or by machine, while a plaquiste works with dry boards on metal frames. Many people hold the CAP Plâtrier-plaquiste and do both. Say clearly which techniques you practise on your CV.

Should I mention insulation work?

Yes. Most linings and partitions include mineral wool, and energy renovation has increased demand for interior insulation. If you know vapour barriers, airtightness details or insulation behind linings, mention them, because poor detailing causes defects that companies want to avoid.

How do I present temp agency work?

Group missions by agency or by period, and list the main sites and tasks. Many plaquistes work through temp agencies in France, so recruiters are used to it. What matters is showing the variety of systems you installed and your level of autonomy.
