Medical secretary is not a regulated profession in France, so foreign applicants can apply without a recognition procedure. Employers usually expect a relevant qualification, such as the titre professionnel Secrétaire assistant médico-administratif, and a strong level of written French, since the job is largely about letters and records. Public hospitals recruit administrative staff through contracts or competitive exams for the civil service. Do not confuse this job with the newer « assistant médical » role, which includes some clinical tasks.
