Taxi driver cover letter example

Taxi companies and licence owners rarely ask for a long letter, but a short one helps when you apply to a company that runs business accounts or medical transport.

It should prove you hold the right card, know the area and can be trusted alone with customers and a car that is not yours.

Subject: Application: taxi driver, [Company], [City]

Dear [Manager's Name],

I am applying for a taxi driver position with [Company]. I obtained my carte professionnelle for [Département] in [year] and have since driven a rented taxi in [City], mainly from the station ranks and through radio dispatch. I would now like to join a company where I can drive a fleet vehicle on regular shifts.

Over the past [x] months I have built up a solid knowledge of the city and its approaches: the quickest routes to the airport at rush hour, the drop-off points at the university hospital and the business districts where most of your account clients are based. Since the car I rent is conventionné, I have also driven patients to dialysis appointments, so I know how to deal with the transport vouchers and the timing constraints of hospital departments.

I am available for early morning and weekend shifts, which I understand are hard to fill for airport transfers. I speak English and [language], which is useful with hotel and airport customers. I check the car at the start of each shift and hand it back clean and refuelled.

A trial shift alongside one of your drivers would let you judge my driving and my knowledge of the city.

Yours sincerely,[First Name Last Name][Phone]

What to highlight

  • Your carte professionnelle and the département it covers
  • Knowledge of the city, airports, stations and hospitals
  • Shifts you can cover (nights, weekends, early airport runs)
  • Experience with medical transport or business accounts
  • Languages spoken with foreign passengers
  • Care for the vehicle you drive

Mistakes to avoid

  • Not stating the département on your professional card.
  • Talking about your love of driving instead of the runs and clients you know.
  • Leaving out your availability, which is often the first thing a dispatcher asks.
  • Sending a letter full of spelling mistakes: you will be filling in fares, receipts and patient forms.

Frequently asked questions

Is a cover letter needed for a taxi driver job?

Not always. Many owners recruit by phone or through word of mouth. A short letter is useful when you apply to a larger company, a radio taxi group or a firm doing medical transport, because it lets you present your card, your area and your availability before the call.

Should I mention my rating on ride apps?

You can mention a strong customer rating in one sentence if it comes from a recognised platform, but do not build the letter around it. Taxi managers care more about punctuality, knowledge of the area, care for the car and the absence of complaints.

How do I apply to rent a taxi rather than be an employee?

The letter is then addressed to a licence owner or a rental company. Explain your experience, the shifts you plan to work and your driving record. Owners want to know you will look after the vehicle and its licence, so mention how you handle maintenance and incidents.
