Plumber cover letter example

Plumbing companies hire people they can send alone into a client's home. The owner or works manager reading your letter looks for your diploma, your qualifications for gas and refrigerant fluids, the kind of jobs you handle and your availability.

A short, concrete letter is best.

Subject: Candidature plombier chauffagiste, [City]

Dear [Mr/Ms Last name],

I am applying for the plombier chauffagiste position at [Company]. I hold a CAP monteur en installations sanitaires and have worked for [x] years at [Current employer], a company of five people serving mainly private clients around [City].

My weeks are split between bathroom renovations and breakdown calls. On renovations I remove the old equipment, run the new supply and waste pipes in multilayer or copper, fit the shower, toilet and washbasin, then pressure-test before handing over to the tiler. On breakdowns I deal with leaking water heaters, blocked drains and boilers in safety mode, and I always explain to the client what I found and what I replaced.

Last winter I took part in the installation of around [x] air-to-water heat pumps and obtained the attestation d'aptitude for handling refrigerant fluids. Your company specialises in energy renovation and holds the RGE label, which is the direction I want to take. I accept on-call weekends during the heating season and I have a driving licence.

I am free to meet you on [date] or to spend a day in the van with one of your technicians. Phone: [phone], email: [email].

Kind regards,[First name Last name]

Frequently asked questions

Should my letter mention which boiler and heat pump brands I know?

Yes, in one sentence. A heating firm often works with two or three manufacturers, and a plumber already trained on their commissioning software or wall-hung boilers saves them a training course. Check the brands on the company's website or van before writing.

How do I find an apprenticeship in plumbing?

Start with the diploma: CAP monteur en installations sanitaires, then the Bac pro ICCER (installateur en chauffage, climatisation et énergies renouvelables) if you want heating. CFA du BTP and Compagnons du Devoir houses help you find a firm. Call plumbers in the morning before they leave for calls, or catch them at a builders' merchant.

Should I mention my own tools?

If you have your own hand tools, such as a press tool, a brazing kit or a pipe bender, say so: it shows experience. Most companies provide the van and heavy equipment, but well-kept personal tools reassure a small employer.
