Plumber resume example

In France, plumbers are often plombiers chauffagistes, combining water, sanitary installations and heating. A typical day mixes planned installations and emergency calls.

On a renovation, you remove an old bathroom, run new copper or multilayer pipes, install a shower tray, toilet and washbasin, and test for leaks before the tiler arrives. In new builds, you place pipes in partitions and floors following plans. Then come breakdown calls: a water heater that no longer heats, a leak under a sink, a blocked drain. Many plumbers also install and service gas or condensing boilers and heat pumps, which requires specific qualifications. You work in clients' homes, often in small spaces, and must explain the repair and leave the place clean.

  • Mention emergency and on-call experience.
  • Name the materials and techniques you master.
  • Include driving licence and own tools if relevant.

  • Omitting availability for emergency calls.

Working as a plumber in France

Working as an employed plumber is not regulated, but firms expect a CAP monteur en installations sanitaires, a BP, the Bac pro ICCER or the titre professionnel « Installateur en thermique et sanitaire ». Setting up your own plumbing business requires a diploma in the trade or three years of experience. Handling refrigerant fluids (heat pumps, air conditioning) requires an attestation d'aptitude, and companies doing energy renovation that clients finance with public aid must hold the RGE label. Gas work follows strict safety rules, and many firms rely on the PG (professionnel du gaz) scheme. Search for « plombier », « plombier chauffagiste », « chauffagiste », « installateur thermique » or « technicien de maintenance chauffage ».

Frequently asked questions

What qualifications do I need to install heat pumps?

To handle refrigerant fluids, you need an attestation d'aptitude obtained after training and an exam, and the company needs a capacity certificate. For heat pumps eligible for public renovation aid, the company must also hold the RGE label. Mention the attestation clearly on your CV.

Are foreign plumbing qualifications accepted?

Practical skills count most, but gas and refrigerant work in France are tied to French certificates. You will need the attestation d'aptitude for refrigerant fluids before touching a heat pump circuit, and firms working on gas often expect training linked to the PG scheme. A titre professionnel « Installateur en thermique et sanitaire » taken through VAE can validate your experience.

Is emergency work a good way to start?

Breakdown and maintenance companies hire often and let you see many installations. The pace is demanding and you work alone with clients, so it suits people who like variety and can stay calm when someone has water on the floor.
