Building maintenance worker resume example

An agent d'entretien du bâtiment, often called agent de maintenance des bâtiments, keeps a set of buildings working: a school, a town hall, a social housing estate, a hotel, a campsite or a company site.

The day is a mix of planned rounds and requests that come in by phone or ticket. You might replace a leaking tap in the morning, change a faulty socket under your electrical authorisation, repaint a corridor, fix a door closer and refit a suspended ceiling tile in the afternoon. You also check heating, lighting and safety equipment, manage a small stock of parts and call outside contractors for bigger jobs. In the public sector, this job is often filled by an adjoint technique who may also look after green spaces.

Frequently asked questions

What is the habilitation électrique?

It is an authorisation given by the employer after a safety training course, allowing you to work on or near electrical installations. For maintenance agents, BS (simple operations such as replacing a socket or fuse) is common. Put the level and date on your resume.

Can I work for a town hall without a competitive exam?

Yes. Local authorities can recruit for the first grade of adjoint technique without a concours, and they also hire contract staff. Apply directly to the town or through the job board of the public service. Experience in multi-trade maintenance is valued.

Is cleaning part of the job?

Sometimes. Some employers, especially small towns and campsites, combine maintenance with cleaning common areas or caretaking. Read the offer: if cleaning takes most of the day, the job is closer to agent d'entretien des locaux or gardien than to multi-trade maintenance, and your repair skills will be less used.
