Subject: Application: Technicien géomètre-topographe, [Company], [City]

Dear [Recruiter's Name],

I am writing to apply for the surveying technician position at [Company]. After my BTS Métiers du géomètre-topographe, I have worked for [x] years in a géomètre-expert practice in [City], dividing my time between field surveys and plan production.

I carry out topographic surveys with a Trimble total station and GNSS receiver, set out individual houses and small collective buildings, and produce plans in Covadis. Last spring, while checking the foundations of a housing project, I found that one axis was offset from the permit plan. We corrected it with the contractor before the walls were built, which avoided a demolition. I also prepare the survey documents that the géomètre-expert uses for boundary meetings, and I have learned there how much a clear plan helps neighbours agree.

Your company handles large linear projects and network georeferencing, which I would like to develop. I have started using a 3D scanner for building surveys and am comfortable processing point clouds. I know the Lambert 93 system and NGF levels, and I have produced as-built plans of utility networks to the accuracy class required by network operators.

I would welcome the chance to meet you and hear about your current projects.

Yours sincerely,[First Name Last Name]

Frequently asked questions

Should I write differently for a practice or a contractor?

Yes. A géomètre-expert practice values land surveys, planning documents and client contact. A contractor values setting out, site checks and speed of delivery. Adapt the example in your letter to the employer's activity.

Is fieldwork alone common?

With GNSS and robotic total stations, many surveyors work alone on small jobs. Mention that you can organise a survey from start to finish. On larger sites, you will often work in pairs or with the site team.

Is drone experience worth mentioning?

Yes, if you have processed drone imagery into orthophotos or surface models. Say whether you flew the drone yourself and which pilot training you hold, since flights in France follow civil aviation rules. If you only processed data that a colleague captured, state that precisely.
